Bethel Church Description
Bethel is a regional church of 300 drawing people from a variety of Houston suburbs. At its heart, this non-denominational church values leading people into a deeper walk with Jesus. This includes biblical teaching, continuing spiritual education and personal relationships. Bethel Church currently hosts a variety of class sessions at 9 a.m. for all ages. This is followed by contemporary worship at 10:30 am. The elders govern the church well, and the staff of 10 enjoy a vital team spirit.
Role Description
Provide overall direction and leadership for the Children’s Ministry of Bethel Church, so that children and their families are discipled, encouraged, and connected to Bethel Church. This is to be accomplished through direction and oversight of Bethel’s children’s programs including Sunday morning and Wednesday evening programs for birth through 5th grade, weekday programs for preschool children, and a one-week summer program for Pre-K through 5th grade.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruit and manage volunteer leaders (for a team of 40 – 50 volunteers) to lead and teach on Sundays and Wednesdays. Provide training and team building opportunities for all volunteers.
- Select a curriculum and materials for all children’s programs with the Session approval. Prepare and organize lessons weekly for all ages from the available curriculum.
- Welcome visiting families and new children. Develop intentional processes for welcoming and inviting visitors to take the next step with Bethel Church.
- Oversee the and advise Mother’s Day Out Director and Nursery Director for effective management of those programs.
- Maintain rosters and update databases for all children’s classes.
- Define and maintain a Children’s ministry budget as approved by the Session.
- Work with volunteers and staff to maintain Children’s ministry environments, keeping them organized and pleasant for multiple groups to use weekly. Maintain and update Faith @ Home family resources.
- Work well with church staff and other ministry leaders. Including attendance at a weekly staff meeting, assistance with church-wide events (four per year) as needed, coordination with Trinity Classical School, MDO, AWANA and other groups using our children’s facilities.
- Work closely with Bethel’s Youth Ministry. Especially to facilitate a seamless hand-off of 5th graders each year from the Children’s Ministry to the Youth Ministry.

- Creative thinker – lead programs that bring God’s Word to children in biblically sound, relevant, age-appropriate ways.
- Team builder – guide and direct teams, being sure to share responsibility. Continually develop leaders over time to ensure the future success of the ministry.
- Gifted communicator – must be able to communicate well with a wide range of people to encourage volunteers, guide families and be enthusiastic with children of all ages.
- Organized worker – keep spaces, information, and teams organized so that all leaders are free to focus on relationship and discipleship.
- Accountable steward – use church resources in a way that will honor God. Spend within the approved budget, and keep up with administrative duties
