The foundations of the bridge known as Bethel Church began in the early 1960’s, when, in a strategic part of Houston, five families joined together to start Bethel Church. Its stated purpose was to reach and teach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to provide Houston with a Bible-centered church.

By God’s grace, Bethel Church has been that, and more. Over the past 45 years and through the leadership of four senior pastors, scores of ministries have benefited from the teaching and passion of Bethel Church. People havecome face to face with the saving message of Jesus Christ, and stories of significant life change began to emerge. These stories spread to family and friends leading to hundreds more stepping onto this bridge as a next step in their journey to become passionate followers of Jesus.

The prime objective of the Bridge Project is to expand and extend our legacy into the future . . . building a bridge toward the dreams of greater impact of our Word-driven mission, both here in Houston and, ultimately, around the world.

From the Pastor

Why We Are Here

dr. michael boysWouldn’t you agree that a great church has more dreams than memories? As I reflect on Bethel’s rich history I also imagine a dynamic, blessed future. Our vision encompassed in the Bridge Project is to better equip Bethel’s ministries, both in the present, and especially into the future, for effective ministry. It’s our dream that these facility improvements and additions will help energize us for our purpose -- to see people everywhere changed into Christ-followers through the powerful, effectual ministry of the Word.

What you’ll find in this section are the reasons we’ve engaged this major project for Bethel’s future. As you read, my prayer is that God will help all of us understand why. That "why" is important, especially now because we must not forget that Bethel Church has never been about building buildings. What we’ve always been about seeing building lives, especially the young lives and families this project is designed to attract and serve. New ministry space is merely a key to that glorious end; and therefore, an important step in building a bridge into the future for the legacy that, by God’s grace, is Bethel’s.

This promises to be an exciting journey of challenge, prayer, and commitment. As your pastor, I invite you each to come along . . . and be an integral part of bridging Bethel Church's great legacy toward a dynamic future full of dreams of God’s supernatural working in changing lives.

Bridge Campaign

Our purpose in The Bridge Project Campaign is to communicate the vision for new ministry space at Bethel Church. We hope to see several outcomes, not limited to financial support:

  • We can expect to experience spiritual growth of the Bethel Church family by dedicating ourselves to prayer, stepping out in faith, and working together for God’s glory.
  • We can expect to provide needed financial resources for a new ministry space as a tool to maximize our ministry.
  • We can expect to envision how our new ministry space will allow us to be more effective in the ministry God has given us.
  • We can expect to build and strengthen the relationships among our Bethel Church family and heightened cohesion to the mission of the church.
  • We can expect to gratefully celebrate God’s blessing as a result of our corporate, faithful consideration of our individual parts in The Bridge Project.

The Purpose of a Bridge

The purpose of any bridge is to connect one place to another. In the same way, Bethel Church has always been a place where people are connected to God through the Gospel revealed in His Word, the Bible.
